M/S Nordic Explorer
Nordic Explorer is an icebreaking pilot cutter built 1933 on the Sölvesborgs yard in Sweden. It was still in service as a pilot cutter in the early nineties, and was acquired by us in the beginning of 2001.
During 2001/2002 it has undergone a throughout refit at the Kummelnas boat yard, in the creation of a unique vessel for exploring Scandinavian waters. Details and specifications are at the end of this presentation.
Nordic Explorer is a ship that can be used throughout the year. It easily breaks up to 30-40 cm of ice, and is heated with a capacity similar to what is used to heat a small house. The onboard generator and water maker allows for long expeditions.
Nordic Explorer has a nine passenger RIB tender with a max speed of 40 knops. The tender is equipped with radar, chart plotter, navigational and work lights for secure navigation in darkness and with reduced visibility.
Nordic Explorer has an oil-free compressor with the possibility for mixing oxygen and helium for Nitrox and Trimix diving. The 240 litre (200 bars) air bank ensures quick filling of the tanks between the dives. Diving is done from the dedicated diving platform with a ladder or from the ships tender. The diving platform is equipped with lights for night diving. A section of the ship has a de-humidifier for drying the diving equipment. A side-scan-sonar will be available in 2003.
Your base for hunting
Nordic Explorer provides a unique base for hunting of seabirds, being located to the outer parts of the archipelago. Our contact network provides you with access to unique areas. The onboard equipment includes an electrical clay thrower, as well as a safety locker for storing guns and ammunition.
Your base for fishing and exploring the wilderness
As there are no limitations in regards to weather nor seasons, Nordic Explorer can be used for expeditions not possible with other ships, i.e. seal or eagle safaris, salmon and trout fishing or to be in the outer archipelago when the ice breaks up in the spring. We can provide you with professional guides and the ship carries equipment for bird watching.
The entire interior is new in 2002, light with details in cherry wood. The deck house includes the bridge an a saloon with a galley. The galley is equipped with stove, oven, micro and large fridge and freezer. The saloon has the entertainment electronics as TV, VCR, DVD, Stereo and Game console. On top of the saloon is a large roof terrace for enjoying the sun, having your meals or just to slip into a sun chair. The terrace has a barbeque grill.
In the aft section below deck are three cabins with 2 Pullman beds and a shared toilet with shower. Below deck in the forward section are two cabins with 2 Pullman beds and a shared toilet with shower, and a proper sauna. To provide the maximum comfort while sleeping, all beds have yachty-Flex with high quality mattresses.
Nordic Explorer is registered as Swedish commercial vessel, and is under the supervision of the Swedish Maritime Authorities in regards to safety, equipment and functionality.
Nordic Explorer provides the possibilities to unique experiences in Scandinavian water, not limited to the few summer months but also with the option to breath the crystal clear air a winter morning in the Stockholm archipelago.
Feel free to share your views and suggestions in the Nordic Explorer guest book, located in the saloon. From this we will continuously try to improve the ship and its operation.
